My Tenth Day at Nile

What things have you covered in today’s sessions?

First of all, we have been given some time to update our blogs. Then out tutor introduced a mobile application called Kahoot. I have already used Kahoot before, so I did not have any difficulty in using it. Here is a video on how to use this application.

What technologies have you been exposed to?

We have been exposed to Kahoot, a mobile application to create quizzes. It is a very practical app since students can use this application on their smart phones in class.

How might you use the technologies/techniques in your own teaching and learning?

I might use this application to revise some vocabulary or grammar topics with my students. Since it is competitive, students might really enjoy it.

What value would these techniques/technologies add to your teaching and learning?

This technique might make the revision part of my classes more interesting and fun.

What challenges do you foresee?

During the game, the Internet connection might break down and some students may complain about this. Also, students might want to play Kahoot each lesson. That's what happened in my class last year.

My Ninth Day at Nile

What things have you covered in today’s sessions?

First of all, we have checked whether we could use all the features on Quizlet. We filled in a checklist and I realized that I am able to use nearly all of them properly. In the afternoon session, we have prepared our presentations using GoogleSlides based on some articles that our tutor has assigned to us. Here is the presentation that I have done. This is a photo of me taken during my presentation.

What technologies have you been exposed to?

We have been exposed to more features of Quizlet. We created our own flashcards and invited other people to do the activities on our page. We really enjoyed the activities. I even tried to learn some numbers in Polish.

How might you use the technologies/techniques in your own teaching and learning?

I might use Quizlet in the class to teach vocabulary. My students can also access to Quizlet outside school and enhance their vocabulary knowledge. My students can also enjoy interactive games and tests on Quizlet. They can do some pronunciation work on Quizlet and improve their pronunciation. Furthermore, they can practice spelling through some tests and games.

What value would these techniques/technologies add to your teaching and learning?

As long as my students have access to the links to the activities I prepared for them, they have a great opportunity to enhance their vocabulary knowledge. I can also print some of the study sets and prepare some handouts for my students.

What challenges do you foresee?

Some of my students may not have internet connection at home, or they may ignore doing the tasks unless they are assessed with grades. Also, some teachers may not have enough time to organize tasks on Quizlet since there is an ocean of vocabulary there to be edited and revised.

What things have you covered in today’s sessions?

We have learned how to benefit from Quizlet. We have cretaed study sets on our own and also made use of user-generated study sets.We could create an account for free. There are seven study methods ranging from a test mode to gravity game. However, if we want to record our own voices, we must pay a fee.Below, you can find a video by our tutor Russell Stannard on how to use Quizlet.

What technologies have you been exposed to?

We have been exposed to Quizlet and we have been provided training on how we can use various features of Quizlet.

How might you use the technologies/techniques in your own teaching and learning?

I might use Quizlet mainly for vocabulary activities. There are many activities that my students might be interested in on Quizlet. I can also assess their vocabulary knowledge from time to time through some tests that I can find and edit on Quizlet.

What value would these techniques/technologies add to your teaching and learning?

This technology and the learning opportunities it provides are just amazing. I believe that my students will benefit from this tool a lot when they learn vocabulary.

What challenges do you foresee?

Some of my students may not have internet connection in their accomodation and may not do the activities properly. Also, some contents on Quizlet may not be appropriate for my students and it might take a lot of time to edit them to use.
